• ​CO-INVENTOR of what she called "frequency hopping," a form of coded radio communication that would eventually become the basis for today's wireless communication technology
• Worked with composer George Antheil to develop the invention
• Original intent was to help Allies securely guide torpedoes during World War II, though the military did not adopt the technology
• Born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler
• While still in high school, she talked her way into her first movie role despite having no acting experience
• Became famous for her role in the movie Ecstasy, in which she appeared nude
• Changed her name after signing a contract with MGM studios
• Considered one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood
• Even though she became an American citizen in 1953, her birthday is celebrated in Germany as Inventor's Day, an official national holiday
• Received the Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award in 1997, along with Antheil
• FIRST woman to receive the BULBIE Gnass Spirit of Achievement Award
