• Made many discoveries, including that chimps use tools (it was previously thought that only humans did), eat meat, and engage in warfare
• One of three female primatologists who became known as the "Trimates" -- the other two were Dian Fossey and Birute Galdikas
• Travels the world to raise awareness about conservation and preservation of wildlife and natural habitats
• Established multiple sanctuaries for chimpanzees rescued from unhealthy captive living conditions
• Founded the Jane Goodall Institute, which promotes ape conservation and environmental education and programming
• Honored with a myriad of awards, including the National Geographic Society's Franklin Burr Award for Contribution to Science, the Kyoto Prize in Basic Science, the Gandhi/King Award for Nonviolence, and was appointed a United Nations Messenger of Peace
• Dame of the British Empire
