• Leader of the Washington Post for thirty years, overseeing its transformation from unremarkable newspaper to media empire
• Worked at the Post after her father purchased it in bankruptcy, but became a housewife after marriage
• When her father died, he left the paper to her husband, because he didn't think a man should work for his wife
• In 1963 her husband committed suicide, and although many expected her to sell the business, she instead became its head executive
• Achievements include ending a strike that helped increase profits, expanding the company into cable and electronic media, and purchasing a lucrative standardized test prep business
• Oversaw historic journalism, including publishing the Pentagon Papers, and exposing the Watergate scandal and President Nixon's involvement
• Served as chair of the board until 1993
• FIRST woman to sit on the board of directors of the Associated Press
• Won a PULITZER PRIZE for her autobiography, Personal History
• Meryl Streep portrayed her in the 2017 movie "The Post"
• Founded the Philip L. Graham Fund in memory of her husband
