HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST
Cofounded Hull-House, living there with other like-minded humanitarians and providing social services such as kindergarten classes, a library, art gallery, and adult education for those in need, particularly poor immigrants
One of the most well known social reformers in the country through her work and writings
Helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the American Civil Liberties Union (with Helen Keller)
FIRST American woman to receive the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
